Frequently Asked Questions
What does the above table mean?
The above table contains three columns. The first column takes you to the
course/topic area in webboard. The second column lists the faculty associated
with the course, clicking on this will take you to the faculty directory entry
in the phonebook. The third column allows you to create an account for the
course by clicking on "Need".
What is my account on Webboard?
During the first week of the semester, you must create your own account to use
this system. If you already have an account, click on "Have" otherwise, click
on the "Need" associated with your course and section.
Clicking on "Need" will create an account for you.
You will be able to use the account when the account creation process completes
and you receive an email with your password. You MUST access
this account within 24 hours, otherwise the account will be deleted.
Clicking on "Have" will take you right to the board for this course.
Please use one of your existing NJIT ID's (either your AFS or Mailhost) for your
account. This will allow others to easily associate this account with you. If
you are unsure of which account to use please look yourself up in the campus
directory (Phonebook/Email Directory
). Click on your name in the name column and look for the field labeled "User
ID" in the top right part of the blue background section. This is your User ID
at NJIT.
When will my account be ready?
New accounts are automatically created and are generally available in a few
minutes of your request. You should receive an email with your initial
password. You MUST login to your account within 24 hours of creation or it will
automatically be deleted.
If this happens, create a new account and login as soon as you can within 24
hours.
How do I logoff of Webboard?
You must exit from your browser and not simply close the current window, to
fully logoff from Webboard. The logoff buttons do not remove the cookie in your
browser associated with your current login to Webboard. You must delete this
cookie to fully logoff from Webboard. This is important for those people
accessing Webboard from a public computer system (like those available in the
labs at NJIT). If you do not do this the next user of the public PC can access
Webboard as you.
I click on the Course, Need or Have and nothing happens,
What's going On?
Chances are very strong that there is a firewall someplace between your browser
and the webboard system at NJIT that prohibits your browser from contacting
NJIT's webboard system. Please see the question on "What TCP/IP ports does
Webboard use?" for the list of ports and services Webboard uses. You will have
to contact your network/firewall administrator with this list to have them
enable these ports.
